As every year, the "Swadeshi
Mandi" was launched this year but through an online platform.
Swadeshi Mandi is an event organised by the "Marketing Interest
Group" - MIG and volunteered by Prof. T Prasad, very
well known as the "Mandi sir" at NITIE, Mumbai.
This year, we had the honour to have an
esteemed guest for the inaugural of the event.
1. Shri Abhay Jere, Chief
Innovation Officer - Ministry of Education, Government of India.
2. Apeksha Haldia -
Founder "Zyka Ka Tadka"
Mr. Jere with his vast experience in
the field and being at such a responsible position at the government of India
truly gave us some enlightening views.
He emphasized on the point that there
is no inadequacy of ideas in a nation of such a large population. India
has a large pool of talent which when tapped can take our country to the next
level of innovation.
For this to happen, more and more people
need to take a plunge into entrepreneurship. Among the ones that
take this beautiful chance of getting into entrepreneurship, there are some who
might learn if they fail only to build a bigger company in their next attempt
while there are ones who will believe in their ideas and go on to become
successful. In any way, they are going to solve problems through new ideas and
generate employment.
He believed that only when such young,
bright and talented students dive into entrepreneurship, is when India can
be self-reliant - Atmanirbhar Bharat
Miss Apeksha, being an alumnus of
NITIE, was very excited to be associated with her alma mater. She started off
by reminiscing her college days when our Prof. T Prasad had given them a task
to "sell" anything on the streets. The initial
reaction of the students to this was a bit weird as they thought that this is not
why they were in a B school.
But they soon realized, that it is the
selling that happens on the streets is what teaches you the most important
topics in Business communication. She remembered, that she had worked for an NGO
and sold games of children on the streets and stopped people even in BMW
cars to buy them. All the earnings were shared with the NGO later.
This field experience of selling was something that she never forgot and
enriched it throughout the journey.
She worked in P&G where she had got
an opportunity directly after the completion of her MBA. But after a few years
of working in the corporates, the local selling is what she loved, she
realized.
She, together with her mother
started "Zyka ka Tadka" and left the job at
P&G. Zyka ka Tadka hosts Indian mothers while cooking LIVE. This concept
was innovative and soon caught the attention of the viewers and gained
thousands of subscribers on YouTube. Currently, ZKT has 432K
subscribers on just YouTube.
She encouraged young students of NITIE,
to think of the box and look for every opportunity that can be turned
into a business.
Nicely articulated.
